in the field of developing training materials to support the promotion of new technologies in rice production

The three institutions AfricaRice, the Competitive African Rice Initiative (CARI, supported by GIZ) and the University of Hohenheim, Department of Rural Sociology started a cooperation in the field of developing training materials to support the promotion of new technologies in rice production. Targeted countries are Ghana and Nigeria. They are looking for one master student for either (theme 1)
conducting a study in selected communities in Ghana and Nigeria to explore the readiness and potentialsof the farming communities for adopting the proposed technologies. The survey should provide guidance forthe project which media to use for the promotion of the developed technologies. The study includes a rapidassessment of community information needs, current information sources and means as well as anassessment to determine best communication media/modes to use to promote the selected technologies.

This includes...- Identifying the main messages for the training of farmers on selected tested scalable technologies in riceproduction- Defining a participatory training approach- Developing a draft of a participatory training event- Test the designed training and include the feedback- Finalize the training and summarize it in a training manual for trainers (including the description of thetraining modules, design of training materials, short description of training methods).
The interested student should complete/have completed the module "Rural Communication and Extension"or "Knowledge and Innovation Management". The work can be realized in the frame of a master thesis or aninternship. A lump sum of max. 4000 Euro will be made available for travel expenses, subsistence costs for max. 4 months, communication); the candidate will be supported by local offices of AfricaRice in Nigeria and partners in Ghana.
