Hans H. Ruthenberg Graduate Award
The Hans H. Ruthenberg Award for Graduates was initiated in 1999, and since then it has been awarded yearly.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Hartwig Ruthenberg was a respected representative in the early years of the international orientated agricultural research in Germany and the successor of Prof. Dr. Josef G. Knoll at the Universität Hohenheim (for his biography see the annex). Based on long-time experiences in Africa and other developing countries Ruthenberg wrote several books which found international acknowledgement. "Agriculture and Capital" (1963) became a ground breaking literature in Development Theory. Most important and world-wide known however, is Ruthenberg's work on tropical agricultural production systems and the related book "Farming Systems in the Tropics" (1971).
The target of the prize is to honour excellent diploma and master theses in the field of food security. All persons can apply for the prize which studied at universities in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and graduated successfully with a diploma or master thesis and which were not older than 28 years at the final examination date. An independent scientific jury decides on the award.
