Agri-Alumni-Net - Second Phase

The main activities in the second phase are alternating workshops in Ethiopia and Germany:

(Workshop 1, March 2024) „Nature based solutions and agro-ecological concepts“
(Workshop 2, September 2024) “Equitability in sustainable agro-ecosystems transformation”
(Workshop 3, March 2025) „Scaling – dissemination and adoption of promising farming systems“
(Workshop 4, September 2025) „Synthesis - identifying pathways for sustainable agro-ecosystems transformation”

Program Overview

Alumni-Network for Shifting Paradigms in Agricultural Systems towards a Sustainable Land-use in Africa: The target country for this network is Kenya, where the long-standing partner institution, the University of Nairobi, is to be set up as an alumni hub for other Kenyan but also regional and supraregional partners from neighbouring countries. Thematically, the network will deal with current agricultural science issues in the field of food security, as well as climate and environmental protection.

In total, over 80 alumni will benefit directly from the support measures in Kenya and Germany in both programme lines. Over 40 alumni will be invited to workshops and training sessions in Germany. However, the number of alumni activated via the network can increase significantly, especially through the open webinars, the optimised networking platforms and the activities in social media. We offer a variety of incentives to continue the alumni network activities beyond the project period.

The proposed project "Agri-Alumni-Net" thus takes into account the overarching programme objectives in several ways and makes a targeted contribution to the professional development of alumni, supports and promotes the commitment of alumni in the networks provided, increases the visibility and competence of the participating institutions in development cooperation and thus promotes the long-term commitment of alumni to the German partner institutions.

Project structure

The project results will be achieved through the following measures and activities:

Activity 1: Implementation of the training workshops: 4 thematic workshops (2x in Kenya, 2x in Germany) on cross-cutting issues in the field of "Shifting Paradigms in Tropical Agriculture". In Germany, each including the international Tropentag conference.

Activity 2: Conduct the webinar series on Paradigm Shifts in Tropical Agriculture.

Activity 3: Strategy workshop and multiplier training for international and national communication

and alumni relations.

Activity 4: Establish alumni database, data analysis and social media research.

Activity 5: Establishment of an agricultural alumni communication network between the participating universities and institutions, nationally and internationally.
