We offer accommodation for 3 nights (Tuesday – Friday) at the “Gäste-Liesel”. At GÄSTELIESEL Göttingen two entire floors are available, on the ground floor and second floor level. There are 5 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen on each floor, 12 minutes walk to the university. Beds at the Gäste-Liesel Hostel (breakfast not inclusive) will be available for students and PhD candidates at special rates supported by Hohenheim Tropics.


Students: 50 €

PhD candidates: 70 €


Due to relative expensive group offers and the demand for flexibility we decided that travel to Göttingen should be self-organized. We suggest to book “Super Saver Fare” Deutsche Bahn starting from 19 Euro (one way), Bus travels for less than 30 Euro (one way). Or using the “Germany Ticket” to enjoy the country.

 How to participate:

• First register for the Tropentag conference on www.tropentag.de.
• Request a room booking by email from Andrea Zipp (see below) and attach the registration
receipt for the Tropentag. As these are twin rooms, you are welcome to find a roommate.
• Transfer the (group) contribution to the bank account of the University of Hohenheim, Baden-Württembergische Bank within 5 days – otherwise your name will be cancelled from the list

World Food Day Conference 2026

The conference brings together the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists and the International Year of the Woman Farmer, highlighting perspectives and knowledge that are often underrepresented in discussions on global food security.

Participants can look forward to keynote speeches, panel discussions and workshops on pastoralism and global food security, biodiversity conservation, food sovereignty, as well as the political and economic dimensions of land and herding.

Venue: Hohenheim Palace, University of Hohenheim

The event will conclude with a reception, networking and a cultural programme. The main event will be held in German. Simultaneous German–English / English–German interpretation is planned for the morning programme.

International Symposium at the University of Hohenheim

About the Symposium

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Dr. Hermann Eiselen, the University of Hohenheim and the fiat panis Foundation are hosting the international symposium "Innovations in Agri-Food Systems for Global Food Security."

The interdisciplinary symposium addresses current questions and innovative approaches to global food security, bringing together perspectives from plant and animal sciences, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, and rural sociology. The program includes, among other contributions, talks by laureates of the Foundation's three awards.
